The year 2020 was a year full of lessons and surprises. Now as we look back it’s a year that showed us that no matter what, we will always rise.
We will reinvent our ways of life and our style, we will move along, and at some point we will find the lost touch. It has also taught us the importance of our homes. It has made many of us grateful for the additional time we have been able to spend with our families.
As the new year approaches, it seems the trend of spending more time is a thing to stay and with people spending more time at home it is inevitable that interior design will be trending as people would want their homes to reflect their personality and character.
This year has also taught us the need for flexible, innovative interior design became apparent. After all, most of us now work, exercise, eat and relax within the same four walls every day.
Here are a few design trends that are going to rule 2021:
Work from home:
Now is a wonderful moment to reevaluate the concept of the home office, which has never happened on such a scale until now.
Since we all are familiar with concept of work from home and how it goes, we need to have some improvisation as how to make work from home interesting with the décor in your surroundings. In 2020, people had to learn live together and due to which the concept of open floor plans, where each room seamlessly flow into the next, has greatly diminished. Having a designated space for different activities, allows for more privacy and limits distraction.
Being close to nature:
Staying indoors for longer period of time throughout 2020 left many of us yearning for a deeper connection to the elements of nature. This is the reason that more people started gardening and having indoor plants as a new hobby during pandemic. We can achieve this with small garden in balconies and private terraces and using more organic material in interior design, having all the possible touch of nature around us helps in having better air quality and may even help brighten your mood.
Add some greens by having fresh flowers and plants around on your table; it helps you to connect with nature a little bit, you can pick something that’s easy to maintain like a money plant or a succulent. If keeping a plant is not something you see yourself doing, try arranging your desk so that it faces your window.
Colour scheme:
2021 will be the year of grey tones. A cool neutral colour scheme connects technology and modernity into elegant spaces. Neutral colours will never go out of style. The most important aspect of this kind of space is to introduce various subtle details that will give a bit more character to an interior. This is ideal for creating more intimate and welcoming environments. A darker blue colour will be the 2021 trend according to the other fellow designers.
Materials and styles:
A trend that become popular in the late 2000s was the Industrial Style with weathered wood, concrete, and metallic lighting fixtures. Light woods which is a Scandinavian inspirations, will be a trend material for interiors. This material will be used not only for flooring but also for covering walls through panels and ceilings; it will prove to be a nature accent with a tactile design trend of 2021. Various design styles of the past including Victorian Era, Art Deco, and grand millennial aesthetics, are making a comeback as people turn to nostalgia for comfort and security.
The year 2021 is going to be a year of trying new ideas as people are going to spend more time at their homes. Investing time and money into selecting the right ideas that compliments one’s home will go a long way in keeping them happy and content.
